Este es un extracto del discurso dado por un grupo de militares en abril de 2002, justo antes de que el Presidente Chávez fuera destituido momentáneamente del poder:

"Hemos decidido dirigirnos al pueblo venezolano, para **desconocer el actual régimen de gobierno** y la autoridad de Hugo Rafael Chávez Frías y del alto mando militar."

No sé cuál verbo emplear en inglés. He conseguido disavow, repudiate, ignore, pero ninguno me termina de convencer.

which answer you choose is a question of style. However, "conocer" here MUST be translated as "recognize", as this is the one and only term used in international relations.
