French term
Numéro de rôle

Law/Patents
Law (general)
The text is about a number of Conseil d'Etat decisions, and at the end it gives references to the decisions including a "numéro de rôle" (as well as subsections etc).
I have found "cause list" as a translation for "rôle" but am not sure if it is appropriate in this instance.

docket number
A docket or calendar of causes ready for trial or argument ... "Trial docket" appears to be used in the United States whereas "court list" is the Canadian term. "Roll for hearing" is used in Quebec.
"Calendar" is used in G.B. for "docket" or "cause-list" in criminal cases only; in the U.S., it is used for both civil and criminal cases.

: this answer is perfectly correct and declining it could be misleading for others later on. it should be noted that this was the very personal decision of asker and does not detract from the accuracy of the answer.the option to decline should be eliminated

Comment: "In fact I opted for "list number", but it appears this was the wronog choice... The reason I didn't originally choose this answer was that it was unclear to me what the British term would be in a non-criminal case. "
