Exactly. i didn't associate it with that, but that must be what is meant by "pinzas" .

Comment: "I have my doubts as none of the horse-drawn carriage descriptions I have read make reference to torsion springs - what I have found is a reference to 'muelles en pinza' with a photo in www.carruajesdoñana.com and they seem to be just elliptical springs, though I have no other back-up for this either - I'll keep looking . . ."
