ESTRAGON: The Bible . . . (He reflects.) I must have taken a look at it.
VLADIMIR: Do you remember the Gospels?
ESTRAGON: I remember the maps of the Holy Land. Coloured they were. Very pretty. The Dead Sea was pale blue. The very look of it made me thirsty. That's where we'll go, I used to say, that's where we'll go for our honeymoon. We'll swim. We'll be happy.
VLADIMIR: You should have been a poet.
ESTRAGON: I was. (Gesture towards his rags.) Isn't that obvious?
Silence.
VLADIMIR: Where was I . . . How's your foot?
ESTRAGON: Swelling visibly.
VLADIMIR: Ah yes, the two thieves. Do you remember the story?
ESTRAGON: No.
VLADIMIR: Shall I tell it to you?
ESTRAGON: No.
VLADIMIR: It'll pass the time. (Pause.) Two thieves, crucified at the same time as our Saviour. One—
ESTRAGON: Our what?
VLADIMIR: Our Saviour. Two thieves. One is supposed to have been saved and the other . . . (he searches for the contrary of saved) . . . damned.
ESTRAGON: Saved from what?
VLADIMIR: Hell.
ESTRAGON: I'm going.
He does not move.
VLADIMIR: And yet . . . (pause) . . . how is it –this is not boring you I hope–how is it that of the four Evangelists only one speaks of a thief being saved. The four of them were there –or thereabouts– and only one speaks of a thief being saved. (Pause.) Come on, Gogo, return the ball, can't you, once in a while?
ESTRAGON: (with exaggerated enthusiasm). I find this really most extraordinarily interesting.
VLADIMIR: One out of four. Of the other three, two don't mention any thieves at all and the third says that both of them abused him.
ESTRAGON: Who?
VLADIMIR: What?
ESTRAGON: What's all this about? Abused who?
VLADIMIR: The Saviour.
ESTRAGON: Why?
VLADIMIR: Because he wouldn't save them.
ESTRAGON: From hell?
VLADIMIR: Imbecile! From death.
ESTRAGON: I thought you said hell.
VLADIMIR: From death, from death.
ESTRAGON: Well what of it?
VLADIMIR: Then the two of them must have been damned.
ESTRAGON: And why not?
VLADIMIR: But one of the four says that one of the two was saved.
ESTRAGON: Well? They don't agree and that's all there is to it.
VLADIMIR: But all four were there. And only one speaks of a thief being saved. Why believe him rather than the others?
ESTRAGON: Who believes him?
VLADIMIR: Everybody. It's the only version they know.
ESTRAGON: People are bloody ignorant apes.
He rises painfully, goes limping to extreme left, halts, gazes into distance off with his hand screening his eyes, turns, goes to extreme right, gazes into distance. Vladimir watches him, then goes and picks up the boot, peers into it, drops it hastily.
VLADIMIR: Pah!
He spits. Estragon moves to center, halts with his back to auditorium.
ESTRAGON: Charming spot. (He turns, advances to front, halts facing auditorium.) Inspiring prospects. (He turns to Vladimir.) Let's go.
VLADIMIR: We can't.
ESTRAGON: Why not?
VLADIMIR: We're waiting for Godot.
Translation - Romanian VLADIMIR: Ai citit vreodată Biblia?
ESTRAGON: Biblia... (Reflectă.) Trebuie să fi aruncat o privire la ea.
VLADIMIR: Îți amintești Evangheliile?

ESTRAGON: Am fost. (Gest către zdrențele sale.) Nu este evident?
Tăcere.
VLADIMIR: Unde eram... Cum ți-e piciorul?
ESTRAGON: Se umflă vizibil.
VLADIMIR: Ah da, cei doi hoți. Mai știi povestea?
ESTRAGON: Nu.

ESTRAGON: (cu entuziasm exagerat). Asta mi se pare într-adevăr extraordinar de interesant.
VLADIMIR: Unul din patru. Dintre ceilalți trei, doi nu menționează deloc vreun hoț, iar al treilea spune că amândoi l-au maltratat.
ESTRAGON: Cine?
VLADIMIR: Ce?
ESTRAGON: Despre ce e toată treaba asta? Au maltratat pe cine?
VLADIMIR: Pe Mântuitor.

Source text - English As our left and right hemispheres differentiated during evolution, each came to gain dominance for specific functions after what must have been many failed experiments with transcortical democracy (Levy, Trevarthen, & Sperry, 1972). Over time, the blending of the emerging strengths of each hemisphere allowed for an ever-increasing integration of our cognitive and emotional functioning. When we are awake, the right hemisphere silently provides information to the left, which we experience as intuition, feelings, fantasy, and visual images (Nasrallah, 1985). The momentary bubbling up of feelings or images, which are then quickly lost, may reflect one aspect of the intrusion of right-hemi-sphere processing into the stream of left-hemisphere conscious awareness (Gainotti, 2011). The filtration of right-hemispheric processes may be necessary to allow us to remain focused on the tasks in which we are engaged, although it may not necessarily register, understand, or allow the information into awareness.

Alexithymia—the inability to consciously experience and describe feelings—is characterized by deficits in the awareness and integration of right-hemisphere functions. Such patients are not prone to depression or mania but instead have a poverty of emotional expression and experience. They are able to recognize that others have feelings, but report being unable to locate any within themselves.
From a psychodynamic perspective, these patients seem trapped in secondary process thinking, disconnected from their inner physical and emotional worlds. Patients with alexithymia are described as having a concrete or stimulus-bound cognitive style, restricted imagination, and a lack of memory for dreams (Bagby & Taylor, 1997). They have difficulty benefiting from traditional modes of talk therapy because of their inability to bring emotions into the session or to use imagination or role-playing to expand their thinking about themselves. Although the neurological correlates of this disorder are still unknown, alexithymia has been described as a "bidirectional interhemispheric transfer deficit" (Taylor, 2000).

Source text - English George had never before travelled under the seat of a railway carriage; and, though he belonged to the younger generation, which is supposed to be so avid of new experiences, he had no desire to do so now. He decided to emerge, and, if possible, to emerge with the minimum of ostentation. Little as he knew of women, he was aware that as a sex they are apt to be startled by the sight of men crawling out from under the seats of compartments. He began his manoeuvers by poking out his head and surveying the terrain.
All was well. The woman, in her seat across the way, was engrossed in her paper. Moving in a series of noiseless wriggles, George extricated himself from his hiding place and, with a twist which would have been impossible to a man not in the habit of doing Swedish exercises daily before breakfast heaved himself into the corner seat. The woman continued reading her paper.
Translation - Romanian George nu mai călătorise niciodată sub scaunul unui vagon de cale ferată; și, deși aparținea generației mai tinere, care se presupune că este atât de avidă de experiențe noi, nu avea nicio dorință să facă asta acum. Luase decizia să iasă și, dacă era posibil, să iasă cu un minim de ostentație.
