This is the "official" term. I use it frequently. I can't find the source right now, but I can say that it comes up for me a lot, usually at the bottom of tables and graphs.

I've found some examples on the Internet--two of them from my own clients! I searched on the string: "source own preparation". I remember now: I learned this when I collaborated with an economist on a large project.
