Rel 40

Spanish to English Medical Medical (general)
Aparece en una lista de antecedentes patológicos de un paciente que ha ido a urgencias con dolor torácico:

EPOC tipo bronquítico crónico
FVC 61% FEVI 35% Rel 40 (2012). No ingresos.

Discussion

David Brown Jun 19, 2013:
REL 40 I would be inclined to agree with Liz, but the mathematics are wrong
"Rel FEV1/FVC >0,7 Patron obstructivo. Rel FEV1/FVC <0,7 Respuesta broncodilatadora negativa".
But here we have FVC 61% FEVI 35%, which would be 0.57 or 57?
It is quite, and infuriatingly, common to use English acronyms in Spanish texts.

No problem, seems neither of us is convinced by either of our contributions...let's hope somebody else will be drawn in to solve the puzzle...t'would make a nice change..
p.s.
it's all very well leaving this as REL, but what does it actually mean/refer to?
DLyons Jun 18, 2013:
@Liz I agree my "reference exposure level 40" is unexpected here and needs further checking. I think what should be researched is REL XX (YYYY), where XX is a 2-digit no (probably 10, 20, ...) and YYYY is a year. I did find a REL XX (2012) somewhere.

I'm unconvinced by your "ratio 40%" though - FVC and FEVI are standard English acronyms, so one expects a priori that REL will also be. And if it was 40% surely they would have said so!

(inhalation) reference exposure level 40

That's REL = 40 µg/m3 (6 ppb)

neutral liz askew : hmm, this relates to toxic air pollutants though

All that's important for the English translation is to leave "REL 40 (2012)" unchanged.
