Leigh, you can't always find an equivalent translation in English. For example, in (excuse the transliteration) Sel'skokhozyastvennyi Entsiklopedicheskii Slovar', Moscow, Sovetskaya Entsiklopedia, 1989, there's a rather long article on potechnoo-tsekhovaya sistema proizvodstva moloka..., one of the references to which is a translation from Bulgarian dated 1984. Believe me, there is no equivalent English terminology covering the entire Russian concept. BTW, the cows выпасают на пастбищах in the summer means simply "the cows pasture in the summer." Yes, pasture is also a verb.

Thank you so much Jack for taking an interest in my question. I admit I am a bit at a loss here and was hoping to hear back from the actual client this weekend about the English terminology they prefer. I haven't yet been able to find the exact term "flow-shop system" used in relation to milk production in an English-language source, but the website you provided is very helpful in explaining the concept, in which apparently the cows выпасают на пастбищах in the summer, so perhaps "continuous housing" is not quite right either.....
