Selected

application for a certificate of (good) conduct from a private person

The word "Erteilung" can be left out here I think.
Peer comment(s):

agree KirstyMacC (X) : a private individual's application... Not for a driving licence as I used to think....

Yes, it usually called a "polizeiliches Führungszeugnis".
agree Kim Metzger : I think we'd need to include "good".
2 mins
Yes, can't be wrong to include it.
neutral Kevin Pfeiffer (X) : (What would such a thing be used for?)

I needed a "polizeiliches Führungszeugnis" when I applied for a job.
agree Ingrid Blank : agree with Kim

Yes, I also think he is right. The adjective "good" should be included here.
neutral Wenjer Leuschel (X) : Ein polizeiliches Führungszeugnis braucht man schon, aber "a certificate of good conduct FROM A PRIVATE PERSON" --- Hmm, was ist denn das?
22 mins
Ah, you are absolutely right. Of course, it should be BY a private person. Those pesky prepositions...
agree writeaway : Werner is right-application BY a private person/individual
33 mins
Yes, it's BY, not FROM.
agree Dr.G.MD (X) : ....GOOD conduct BY a private person
1 hr
Yes, definitely "BY a private person"; "from" is ambiguous here.

individual's application for police clearance

Romain's Dictionary of Legal and Commercial Terms gives "police clearance" as another option, although "certificate of (good) conduct" is also fine. I think "individual" is sufficient for "Privatperson" — also given in Romain, and putting it in front eliminates the ambiguity.

application for a private certificate of good conduct

...as opposed to a certificate of good conduct for official purposes.

Stright from the source (with such an application): http://www.bundeszentralregister.de/bzr/bzr15_engl.htm

Perosnal Application for a Certificate Of Conduct

During my ten years in Germany such a certificate was required in all kinds of situations and it didn't always reflect good behavior. You needed to have one (and to present it) no matter what it said. On ealways hoped that it would show good conduct, and if it did not, you could be sure of getting what you were seeking.
Consequently, I would definitely leave out the "good."

I think the \"persona\" take care of the \"private person,\" i.e., it shows that the application is not \"official,\" i.e., from an official agency.

I typed too quickly: Personal Application, not Perosnal.
