Discussion

Katalin Sandor Aug 21, 2007:
Ildikónak: In Hungary 'normally' you make you own ice cubes. They do not come in any bag whatsoever. Maybe your 'American type' fridge makes them. Or you may go out of you way to find pre-produced ice-cubes somewhere. But as a rule, you make them yourself
Katalin Sandor Aug 21, 2007:
Adam, the 'no context required' bit was GI optimism. Does you wife well plastic BAGS, the small bags with the pre-formed ice-cube shapes, or does she sell ICE CUBES? (hard to believe that she would ship ICE to Hungary). We have a disagreement here. HELP.
Adam Olszewski (asker) Aug 21, 2007:
OK, the point is that my wife produces plastic ice bags, and now she has to put the name in Hungarian on the labels. Sorry for the fuss, but only now she told me what she needs it for. Please, tell me what should be written on the label of an 'ice bag'.
juvera Aug 21, 2007:
It may not be relevant, but you can buy bags of ready-made ice cubes at bigger petrol stations in Hungary.
Adam Olszewski (asker) Aug 21, 2007:
Exactly, I need plastic bags to pour in water and make ice cubes in it.
Laszlo Kocsis Aug 21, 2007:
What do you want to buy? Ice cubes in a bag?
Lőrincz Tamás Aug 21, 2007:
hello! I found some links to jegtasak on the internet. Word "zacsko" is good, but I think, "tasak" is more hungarian... :)
Adam Olszewski (asker) Aug 21, 2007:
aha, I get it. But now I see Tamas is from Slovakia and I'm getting a little confused. Who is who ?
Áron Török Aug 21, 2007:
haha, dear Adam, i'm from Romania, Tamas is from Slovakia :)
Adam Olszewski (asker) Aug 21, 2007:
I am looking for a word I would find on an ice bag label when I buy it in a shop in Hungary. Which of the two would I find guys ?

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Oh yes! This is exactly what I meant. I didn't even know that other types of ice bags or pre-produced ice are available. This option goes to the gloss, meaning 'ice bag (for producing ice cubes at home)'. Lots of thanks everyone ;)"

jégkocka-készítő tasak

This variation sounds more official. It means a bag for producing ice cubes.
Peer comment(s):

agree Katalin Sandor : This is what I would say. Unfortunately, I have just run out of the thing, so I could not check. I'm sure someone has a pack in the drawer and can tell you for sure.

disagree Ildiko Santana : Normally the ready-made ice cubes come in these bags, no preparation necessary. Or at least here, when we say "ice bag" it just means a bag full of ice.

English term (edited): ice (bag)

jég (tasak)

Honestly, I would just say JÉG ! =)

While I agree with the previous answer that ICE is JÉG in Hungarian and BAG is TASAK or ZACSKÓ, how could your wife possibly go wrong with just printing "JÉG" on those bags? Anybody can see they are bags, right? ....

disagree Katalin Sandor : Except that your link shows a picture of a bag actually containing ICE. She is not selling ice, is she? Or am I the one to misunderstand the asker? Let's ask him again.
