De eerste bevestigde patiënt met een nieuwe ziekte in een bepaald land, gebied of ziekenhuis. Dit hoeft in werkelijkheid niet de eerste patiënt te zijn. Zo is later gebleken dat er dagen voordat de Nederlandse patiënt nul met COVID-19 werd gevonden al iemand met dezelfde ziekte op een Nederlandse IC lag.
