Dutch term

doorlopende leerlijnen

Dutch to English Other Education / Pedagogy
"Doorlopende leerlijnen" state what knowledge will be offered to pupils and when (during what lesson and in which grade) and when the necessary component skills and strategies will be offered and practised. Via a "leerlijn" teachers can oversee the content of the matter and the method and from that they can conclude what feedback is necessary and when. Next to that the "leerlijn" should give insight in the building up over the years: what knowledge, skills and strategies do you offer in the first year, in the second year etc. And: which means do you use.

The term is in use at Dutch VMBO level.

Any suggestions are welcome.

Discussion

Non-ProZ.com Sep 1, 2004:
enduring learning-teaching pathways Thank you very much, Eldira, I accept enduring learning-teaching pathways as a good translation for 'doorlopende leerlijnen.
eldira Sep 1, 2004:
-For "doorlopende", why not try "enduring" or "persistent" ?
-'learning pathway' is the same as 'learning trajectory'; one definition of trajectory from Merriam-Webster is: 1 b: a path, progression, or line of development likened to a physical trajecto
Non-ProZ.com Sep 1, 2004:
learning-teaching trajectories Thanks for your information Eldira, and thanks Tina and Mirjam for your reactions.

In the definition of 'Doorlopende leerlijnen', source: vmbo-loket.nl and which I translated in the question, the emphasis seems to be on the teaching side. So to me 'learning-teaching trajectories' seems a better translation for 'leerlijnen' than 'learning trajectory'.

Does 'learning pathway' seems the same as 'learning trajectory'? That term is used in information from the Australian government, but again emphasizes the student's side.

What about 'Doorlopend': if I try to make google hits with combinations of 'continuous', continuing' and 'continual' I don't get any hits.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "I almost accepted "enduring learning-teaching pathways". The combination "learning-teaching" is important in the concept because it deals with the teacher's side. "Learning-teaching trajectories" I finally accept as the best translation "
