The context is a lease agreement. The leased property is in Germany and will be used for the operation of wireless networks. The phrase appears only once in the document:
"Die XX hat zur dinglichen Sicherung der künftigen Nutzung der übertragenen, auf Grundstücken der XX errichteten Funktürme und Masten (E-Funktürme und E-Masten) eine beschränkte persönliche Dienstbarkeit zugunsten der Mieterin bestellt."
Can I say "(e-towers and e-pylons)"? What does the e stand for? Thanks for any help you can offer.

translate like "Sendetürme" and "Sendemasten", omit the parenthesis
"E-Funkturm" is an outright invention, and "E-Mast" is not very common The normal words are "Funkturm" = "radio tower" and "Strommast" = "(electricity) pylon". Although I am not sure if those people really mean Funktürme and Strommasten - I think they mean "Sendetürme" and "Sendemasten" for cell phones. I suppose they added the "e" because they weren't sure about the German words themselves.

I agree with Ricky, omit the "E"...it is about placing towers and poles for the cell phone network.

| Thanks, Kathy. I wish I could award points to both you and Ricki for advising me to ditch the "e-" words. I'm still undecided about poles. I get only a few hits for "cell(ular) phone poles" and "cell(ular) phone pylons" but many for "towers." Since the things haven't been erected yet, there's no telling what they will look like � maybe trees. The Cell Phone Tree article was neat! We have a cell phone tree near us too. |
