The coverage ratio is somehow the measure what they can borrow. Most of the banks involved in structured finance use a coverage ratio of 133 % depending on the type of commodity and the hedging program in place. We can look at it in another way. A coverage ratio of 133% is a loan to value of 75%. I explain.
If you give a loan of USD 7,5 mln this needs to be secured by future production of commodities to be sold into the market for an amount of USD 10 mln.
As you see in the termsheet, coverage ratios are also used to determine other financial ratios. In banking terminology this is also referred to as Financial covenants.
