Roman Bardachev: 00:32 Nov 24, 2006: I would think they mean that your goals have to be slightly beyond what could be achieved relatively easy with a reasonable amount of effort. In other words, set a goal that you'd have to work harder than usual to achieve.

Olga Cartlidge: "Stavte pered soboy zadachy y dobyvaytes ikh vypolnenyya": Na optimalnom, no ne na kriticheskom predele. I remember a headteacher asking me if my son felt he was stretched enough in his maths class. Cf also Executive Stretch Programs popular in Britain.

По правде сказать, мне впервые встречается этот оборот.
Зато встречалось выражению "stretch goals" (см.ниже).
